FDI Into Burma Hits $4.1b in 2013-14 Fiscal Year

Foreign direct investment into Burma reached US$4.1 billion in the 2013-14 fiscal year, Eleven Media reports, citing the country’s Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration (DICA). The investments—in Burma’s energy, commodities, mineral extraction, hotel and tourism, and property sectors, among other industries—brought the total number of foreign nations putting money into Burma to 34. The DICA credited the foreign investment with creating more than 50,000 jobs in Burma as of the end of December. The figure for the 2013-14 fiscal year, which ended on March 31, compares with about $1.42 billion in FDI over the same period in 2012-13.
