Sponsor an Irrawaddy correspondent

Dear Irrawaddy subscriber,

As part of our ongoing mission to promote independent journalism, The Irrawaddy has made a strong commitment to supporting young and talented Burmese reporters, who often face challenges and dangers unimaginable in countries where genuine press freedom exists. We strive to give them not only training, but also an opportunity to work as professionals in the field, gathering news and information for our readers around the world.

The Irrawaddy's network of correspondents includes individuals who work at great risk to themselves to cover sensitive issues affecting Burma's people. For this, they receive very little recognition or reward.

Although we continue to support our correspondents by providing them with a small stipend for their invaluable services, financial constraints have made it difficult for us to guarantee them the regular income they need to work effectively in an extremely insecure economic environment.

That is why we appeal to you to help us give them the support they deserve.

The Irrawaddy would like to ask our longtime supporters to make a contribution that will go directly to the dedicated young men and women who are prepared to pay a high price to bring you the accurate and reliable news that Irrawaddy readers have come to expect.

We welcome donations of any size. People or organizations donating $100 or more will receive a certificate of appreciation for their commitment to The Irrawaddy and press freedom in Burma.
