Snr-Gen Than Shwe, the head of the Burmese junta, met with India’s visiting army chief Gen Deepak Kapoor in Napyidaw on Monday.

According to Burma’s state-run-newspapers, Than Shwe received Gen Deepak Kapoor and his delegation along with other top ranking junta generals including Vice Snr-Gen Maung Aye, Gen Shwe Mann, Gen Tin Aung Myint Oo.

In this photo released by Myanmar News Agency (MNA), Snr-Gen Than Shwe, and Vice Snr-Gen Maung Aye center meets Indian Army Chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor in Naypyidaw.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint, the chief of Burmese military intelligence, called Military Affairs Security, was also in the welcoming delegation, reflecting the importance of counter insurgency and ethnic issues along the Indo-Burma border.

Before the meeting, Than Shwe, the Indian army chief met with Maung Aye on Monday morning, along with the head of Military Ordnance, Lt-Gen Tin Aye, which underscored the importance of India as a supplier of military hardware to the regime.

A few days earlier, Deepak Kapoor told India’s Time Now television that India’s army is capable of countering any Chinese military threat. India has accused China of incursions into its territory during the past two years.

Commenting on China, he said: “The Indian army is capable of looking after the defense of the country. So, it would take care of any aggression. Certain offensive actions are also part of the overall defense. We do not have any designs on anyone else's territory, but we would like to defend our territory.”

Following the Indian general’s visit, observers noted that the military regime also received US Sen. James Webb in August. Both actions are seen as countering Beijing’s influence in the region and an effort to reduce Burma’s dependency on China.

“Traditionally Burmese leaders, including former prime minister U Nu, have been concerned about China’s influence and threats as the two countries have had historical conflicts. So Snr-Gen Than Shwe needs more friends to balance Beijing’s rising influence in Burma,” said Aung Naing Oo, a Burmese political analyst based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Two months ago, Than Shwe met the US senator who supports an end to US sanctions on the junta. He discussed China’s influence in Burma when he met Than Shwe and the Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi during his visit.

Webb later wrote in a The New York Times column that Western sanctions “have allowed China to dramatically increase its economic and political influence” in Burma, “furthering a dangerous strategic imbalance in the region.”

“If Chinese commercial influence in Myanmar continues to grow, a military presence could easily follow,” he said.

About a week after Webb’s visit, the Burmese junta captured territory of the Kokang ethnic cease-fire group on the Sino-Burma border on August 24. Beijing has repeatedly called for a peaceful resolution to ethnic group conflicts in Burma. The junta’s Kokang offensive drove as many as 37,000 Kokang Chinese refugees to seek safety in China

This is sickening. How can our great multi-cultural democracy support this dictatorship. Engagement is important, as is reaffirming our cultural and economic links to the Burmese people. But selling them military hardware? Let's stop this at once, otherwise we will forget who we are.

Some people don't like Tofu and some cannot stand Masala; the Burmese like both, which is a good thing and allows more ochoice on the menu. The chicken dish is the one we all agree is a common choice no matter how it is cooked. De...licious!

On 14 October 2009 an EU delegation of 20 headed by the Swedish Ambassador met with six NLD Central Executive Committee members. The meeting venue was at the NLD HQ Office. The news reported that EU Envoys and CEC Members discussed the forthcoming election.

You see how fast my prediction is come true. This is the new order that Than Shwe and group have received to arrange for NLD and EU Delegation. There will be more assignments for TS, believe me.

We are reminded by past experience that these generals have never shown “good service” as of recently. Have you thought what inducements made the Junta followthese demands? You better ask John Yettaw.

China’s influence over Burma is diminishing day by day. It is not because sanctions will be lifted or not but because of China's wrong and outdated global foreign policy.

If China continues to grip to her “Chinese way Socialism” policy, the consequences are unthinkable. It may worse than what the Soviet Union experienced. China ‘deserved’ its role for making 55 million Burmese people suffering today,

What about Than Shwe (TS) and group? They have to pay for their crimes. Previously, TS was usually proud to reject requests to meet him.

Consider why he had to obediently receive Sen James Webb in August, and now India’s Army Chief?

You may say the trips are to counter China or whatever. In reality TS and group are either instructed (in New York, say) or take orders (in Burma. Fighting the Kokang and going against China, and agreeing to DASSK’s requests are good examples. Let us see what they will be ordered to do next.

Most Burmese, including Than Shwe, claim to be devout Theravada Buddhists and we all know Buddhism originated in India, not China. Also the Burmese/Mon script is derived from an Indo-Brahmaic script and not from Chinese like Korean or Japanese. Burma cannot be part of China for cultural reasons alone. Let the Chinese take over Korea and Japan first!

Burma was once a very prosperous country and there was even have a Burmese Secretary General of the United Nations. Wrong policies have impeded the country's growth.

Our country should not become a fighting ground in a silent war between China and India, or China and the US. On the other hand ethnic cease fire groups should also be aware of being manipulated by SPDC and China to suit their intentions.

We Burmese people will be stuck between the Chinese dragons and the Indian demons very soon. Thailand is the gateway to the West for innocent Burmese. Let's get out of Burma and move to the west.

Than Shwe is playing the game with China, India, Russia and USA. He is a psychological warfare tactician and knows how to move pawns.

He does not care about Chinese influence of Burma or anything about Burma. He is just seeking the attention of China. That is all.

China is the only country which can assure that Burma will be under military dictatorship.

Than Shwe hates Burma and Burmese/ Ethnic people. He was dancing when the cyclone hit the delta region because people are his enemy. No one should be confused about the wicked Than Shwe`s activities.
