Five political prisoners have been held in specials punishment cells, known as “dog cells,” and banned from receiving family visits since May 11 in Insein Prison in Rangoon, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) (AAPP), based in Thailand.

The AAPP said the reason for the severe punishment is not known.

Naing Naing, a member of parliament-elect; Soe Han and Aung Naing of the National League for Democracy party; Lwin Ko Latt, a member of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions; and Sandimar, a senior abbot were named as recipients of the harsh punishment.

The AAPP said that Naing Naing suffers from a hernia and hypertension, and Soe Han, a lawyer, has eye problems. Their families have been banned from visiting and have been unable to provide them with essential medicines.  The families are very worried for the health of their loved ones.

Naing Naing, 67, also known as Saw Naing Naing, from Pazuntong Township was arrested on September 14, 2000 and charged with threatening national security and violating publishing restrictions. He was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.

Soe Han, arrested on September 14, 2000 and charged with the same offenses was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.

Due to inadequate healthcare provisions in prisons across the country, political prisoners depend on family members to bring medicines and other essential items.

The ruling military government has not allowed the International Committee of the Red Cross to conduct prison visits since November 2005.

You are nuts.

Okkar,

Have you been in Insein Prison before? How much do you know about that prison?
That place is a real hell in human life.
You should go and see how people have to live there.
Insein prison is one of the worst place in the world.
For the rich people, it doesn't matter. They give money to the prison's doctors and they can stay at the prison hospital. They can drink Coke and smoke 555 cigarattes. They can watch XXX movies. They can even sleep with girls they wants.
But over 99.99% of the prisoners have live like animals.
I wish someone could make a real report about life inside Insein Prison.

Okkar,

I've had it with your dim-witted views and comments about those who are trying so hard to achieve democracy for Burma. You've been living too long eating the crap your khwe-thar Than Shwe and his pack of pariahs are feeding you. Take your head out of Than Shwe's proverbial and see things clearly. I really pity you and your kind.

Dear Okkar,

If you dare to say the said facts are not true, please do so. At the moment, you don't seem to know any real facts behind the story but you are still trying to discredit the news and the source. How stupid is that?

To Okkar,

Then ask your Information minister Kyaw San to get the details. Only SPDC should be shameful about their one-sided news releases. If you are not happy with this article, you should go and confirm at the prisons your self. Your government doesn't even have the guts to try the 88 students and Daw Suu in public. Again, shame on the SPDC.

Okkar,

Is yours fixed rate or payment by performance? In dollars I hope. Marks out of 10? Upgradeable. Keep going.

It is very easy to make up names without any valid supporting information, i.e. from which town, their nrc number 'etc. AAPP is just another organisation which is making a living on hand outs from western charities. They need to keep fuelling the gossip fire in order to get the next installment of their grants/donations. Thats the reason why you always get to see information coming from AAPP around this time of the year, and their information only contains names, no other verifiable information such as where these prisoners are held 'etc. All are fabricated stories just to fatten the personal wealth of Bo Kyi.
