US Ambassador ‘Deeply Concerned’ About Meikhtila Communal Violence

US Ambassador to Burma Derek Mitchell responded to the outbreak of inter-communal violence in Meikhtila town, central Burma, on Thursday. In a brief statement he said, “I am deeply concerned about reports of violence and widespread property damage in Meikhtila Township, Mandalay Region. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and property in the violence. The Embassy is monitoring events closely.”
