RANGOON/MONYWA DISTRICT—Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi was confronted by hundreds of angry protesters on Thursday morning as she attempted to explain the controversial findings of a parliamentary inquiry into the Letpadaung copper mine project.

Suu Kyi was on her way to Ton village, near the project site in northwestern Burma, to explain the findings of the investigation commission, which she chaired, when her motorcade was surrounded by around 500 protesters.

The protesters are angry with the findings of her commission, which stated the mine project should go ahead despite environmental concerns and widespread local opposition. The inquiry also failed to hold anyone responsible for a violent crackdown, which injured more than 100 protestors on Nov. 29.

Anger was further fuelled on Wednesday after she gave speeches in three nearby villages calling on locals to stop opposing the project and accept compensation for land lost to the project.

Suu Kyi, who was accompanied by a full police escort, was forced to deliver her speech while surrounded by the protesters.

“Nothing is more important than our people,” she said. “I am responsible for the good of you. Even though the Letpadaung Mountain will be gone, we can still create a good and pleasant environment for you.”

But locals expressed their disbelief at the results of the commission and are demanding the complete shutdown of the project.

“The commission findings are against the local people’s will. That’s why we are staging our protest,” said Thaung Htike, of the People’s Support Service, an activist group.

The copper mine project on the Letpadaung Mountain is a joint venture between the military-owned Myanmar Economic Holdings and Wanbao, a subsidiary of China’s state-owned arms manufacturer Norinco.

The company confiscated 7,800 acres (3,156 hectares) of land in 2010. Farmers began a protest against the project a year later, which quickly gained support among rights and environmental groups, and the general public.

Suu Kyi spent nearly three hours with the protesters in Ton village attempting to explain the commission’s findings, but her words mostly fell on deaf ears, with locals repeatedly shouting: “We reject the Commission’s results. We won’t accept them at all.”

She then headed to another nearby village, Se Te, and her motorcade was again blocked by locals, who eventually let Suu Kyi into their village. Other commission members who were travelling with her were not welcome.

According to her one of her bodyguards, the opposition leader was very upset about the reaction from the crowd and he said she would continue to address the concerns of the locals until they were satisfied.

  1. “Nothing is more important than our people,” What a hypocrite!

This woman is totally deranged wanting to claim to be “People’s Champion” as she believes herself to be so as her groomers and handlers have told/ brainwashed her pathetic little mind for the last two decades and still feels she can claim it while “explaining” it to the innocent villagers (who she takes to be so,so dumb as they cannot speak good English) being currently screwed raw by the Tayoke and Bamar Sit-tut together.

Not only them, but the whole area and the rivers are to be irreparably DESTROYED for the Tayoke’s sake. And yet it is so, so desirable because there are others waiting in hoards to do the same to the land and the public of Burma.

Still she finds support among the “elite” crowd as they know better. And the villagers are at fault not to take their deprivation, starvation and loss of abode and livelihood lying down quietly!!! Incredible!

This way the only direction the “New Reformed Burma” is heading is HELL.

    • she is doing right for the whole picture but just not worth for selfish people who trying to make fake hero small minded people .

      • What are you talking about Saung!

      • Small minded! Indeed. For not quietly lying down and die for YOU and YOUR High and Mighty (or so she believes) Amay Suuuu.

Why don’t people who are so sure of this BIG PICTURE CRAP give up your own stuff and die quietly yourselves rather than ask someone else to do it like a Good Coward to satisfy your Sit-tut/ their Master Tayokes and their collaborator and defender Aung San Suu Kyi.

For the record this woman has done NOTHING.

ON:LY pathetic people feel the depraved need to believe so. This opening/ reforming/ Burma known around the world crap is well planned and carried out by Than Shwe and orchestrated by his military “Think Tank” which writes all Thein Sein’s speeches and answers to questions,

        Democracy, my foot!

Insulting this woman! She is beneath insult.

    • Who are you to make such comment? She’s trying hard for all people in Myanmar. I know that she’s not goin to give up and she will succeed. It’s ok not to appreciate but don’t insult. It’s worse the strays dogs who bite back the owner who provide him shelter and food.

    • Hell might look like this, a gargantuan hole stretching from Nyaungbingyi all the way to Po Win Taung. Here’s one open cast mine that blights the lives of the Pa O near Inle Lake.

  2. ASSK has done everything what she could do the best for the people. These local villagers deserve with the military goverment, not democracy. Why they protest now…The copper mine project on the Letpadaung Mountain has been doing since long time ago, nobody dare to protest.

    • It is easy to endure other people’s suffering said E F Schumacher. Letpadaung is of course neither your home nor no. 54 University Avenue (remember the court case against her brother?).

Just because the mine has been there for some time and people dared not protest when all the land grabbing was taking place (even if you have conveniently forgotten that the mountains existed there from the beginning of time until they became a hole in the ground) it doesn’t make it fair or right.

    • I am totally agreed with you. Those villagers only understand the Guns and deserve General Than Shwe. ” Not Democracy and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi”. It will repeat the history of U Nu’s Government with Ne Win’s Military coup if these primitive people keep on disobeying the law and insulting and abusing ” Democracy”.

      • There would be no democracy at all without protests. The system of democracy arose from protest movements, for instance in the French and American Revolutions (late 1700s), and modern-day protests in South Africa, the Philippines, Yugoslavia, and many others. And today indigenous peoples around the world are protesting the destruction of their culture and the genocide perpetuated against them.

    • What a Hitler minded people you are! The local villagers have every rights to say or protest against this project. This is just a start towards a true democratic country. If you wants the people to shut their mouths, stop shouting the word ‘democracy’.

Apparently you do not seem to understand what democracy is all about. I suggest you to google it or if you are so lazy to do so, just click on the link below.

    • Hi Win,
It’s very sad for Daw Su. She has tried her best for interest of Nation and those peoples who lost their land to MEHL. Those peoples thought shutting down Letpadaung Copper Mine is very easy.
They do not look into how to pay compensation to Wanbao Company. Wanbao Company has invested billions of dollars in this Lepadaung Copper Mine. Also Burma’s reputation will damage if the Mine was shut down.
I know Burmese peoples do not like Communist Chinese Company but what else can you do? Once you’re inviting International Company for their investment. We only need strict regulations for environment and monitoring their illegal activity.
Government must tell MEHL and Wanbao Company to pay adequate compensation to land owners but not Daw Su. Daw Su has no power to interfere between MEHL, Wanbao Company and land owners. She has just finished her duty and the rest is up to the land owners. They need to hire Lawyers and Lawyers will do behalf of the land owners.
Burmese peoples though they can have everything with Democracy.
They should know Democracy not comes with Golden Tree for everyone.
Even our Lord Buddha will not be satisfied those peoples. First they want adequate compensation for their land and replacement village and farm land. Now they are talking about environment. The environment can control by independent watch dog organization and strict regulation for Mining Industry.
If our Lord Buddha was alive and then he will say it’s Karma if they are satisfied with the result.

    • Are you saying that Burma shouldn’t change and the local villagers should just shut up and endure all the hardships, loss of land and the destruction of their environment just as they had to endure for the last 50 years? Why don’t we just bring back Than Shwe and Khin Nyunt (Ne Win is dead!). Let’s stop talking about “Freedom from Fear” and “Amay Suu Kyi” then!

    • you are absolutely right Htay win.Letpadaung project started when Daw suu was house arrest .she have to clean up all the mess that ex-military government did so many years.May be they want to go back to military rule and stay under the gun point .But nobody dare to say and protest whatever military and police did to them when the project start. They do not deserve Daw su who try to help the country and the people.all they deserve is U than shwe and military gun.

  3. It may be the first experience for Daw Suu that her people go against her. I am afraid that many more will come if Daw Suu involves in so many things. I would suggest Daw Suu to stay away from the complicated social and political unrests.

    • Yes, her principal is in question. Are we saying that Money is more important than having rights and freedom? That’s exactly why US company are not coming to US too quick. They said if they do come in, it must be free and fair to the local.

  4. She should change the word to “Nothing is more important than the president seat. Even though the Letpadaung Mountain will be gone, I can create a good and pleasant environment for you if I become the president.”

  5. DASSK try her best for her people and she do the right thing for all Burmese. We should have open mind and support her. Long life Daw Suu.

    • Daw Suu has given her life to her people (us). She was confined in the cell and in her house for several year; she has lost her husband and lost her fimily life- stay away from the children. She gives us hope and future. Yes, she has done a lot of things to us. Now, she may make a mistake, but not intend to hurt her people. Some of the heros come out and point their fingers to Daw Suu and accused her in bad ways. She is not worthy to get the blame. If you think she makes the mistake, please forgive her.

  6. Burma is the world poorest country. If Burma has fish in pond or river or sea, all poor Burmese need to eat fish equally from capturing. If there is more valuable mines, compared to the farm land’s output, we poor Burma need to explore mine to get benefit equally . However, those mining business profit will go to U pai , than shwe’s private military company and his crony in large share. The share ( benefit) of U pai and crony is also bigger than Chinese side who invests money and technology. Why is U pai more richer than government for this profit making investment ?. NLD or DASSK’s relatives should also set up the company to do the mining business with China as well. We , all poor Burmese will use own funeral small money to buy DASSK’s company share for that kind of sure profit investment. However, i do not know the mining practice of Chinese company is up to the international standard or not. People are angry about those unfairness in facts. DASSK should address those unfairness issue as well. If the wealth of U Pai is created or generated under the rule of law, DASSK must also mention that she has no military power to investigate U pai. DASSK must say those villagers that farmland’s output is less than mining output in term of money but it will go to U pai and crony under the rule of law, set by than shwe private military thugs. As such, DASSK will not be confronted by those naive villagers, probably set up by than shwe. DASSK needs the capable advisers in NLD in order to avoid the trips and traps of than shwe. In Rohyigya and ethnic issues , DASSK is very cleaver to say she had no power to make comment.

  7. Democracy is to implement the will and the need of the people. Even though Myanmar Democratic icon honored by India, Suu Kyi is not in a position of fulfilling such genuine demand of the huge villagers, dismantling a complete flop of Letpadawng copper mining project, the genuine ideology of democracy of all the citizen of Union of Burma will definitely bring the will of the protesters rather the want of them in its own time. We believe the democracy giving us freedom from fear of any kind of authoritarianism and hegemony, taught by Suu Kyi herself, in the name of civil rule under nonmilitary-uniform Thein Sein

  8. I don’t know about how U Thein Sein is going to get a Noble Prize but one thing I know that appointing Daw Suu as the Chairperson for the Commission was the most genius political stroke – hitting two birds with one stone. He managed to put a wedge between Daw Suu and the people. He also managed to go scotch free when it comes to the use of ‘illegal’ and internationally banned material against the protesters. And the winner is (sorry the joint winners are) MEHL and the Chinese company. The losers are, Ivanhoe, the people and all those who put their trust in her – believed her every word as gospel truth. Why would the Buddha has said in Mangalasuttam, ” Not to associate with fools but to associate with the wise and to honour those who are worthy of honour?”

  9. So this is DASSK’s real ability. It’s been for decades she could not show what she really is. After all, you cannot be your father’s daughter to convince people that you deserve to be leader.

  10. Forgive people who confront coz that is their treasure and may be so presious for them with their born knowledge but let then feel the fruits of grow on their land.

  11. In the public sphere nepotism undermines the common good. When someone is granted a position because of connections rather than because she has the best credentials and experience, the service that person renders to the public may be inferior.

  12. Does not anyone see???- Daw Suu is now truly in junta’s trap -

anyone in crowd could harm her -

    • Yes, it’s a trap. Just like in Kachin she didn’t say any..

    • Daw Kyi May Kaung. That is too much undue credit being so naive to be caught in a “trap”. She is so brain washed and conceited that she thinks she knows the “BEST” for everyone in Burma and indeed in the whole world, with lots and lots of glassware to “prove”.

And the best thing for these poor and unsophisticated and uneducated villagers is to vacate their ancestral land they have quietly tended for food production for centuries and up-root themselves to oblivion just like no one gives a damn about the villagers who resided for centuries in that horrid ghost-infested cursed place called “Nay-Pyi-Daw”, “Abode of Ogres”.

And NO villager is LOWLY to harm her. Not even while she is chastising them for not taking the harm she prolifically prescribed to themselves quietly! Oh, so, poor, poor Amay Suu. Wish these villagers all dead quietly!

  13. It’s Gen. Thein Sein who should go down there to talk to the people – he just appointed Daw Suu to “inquiry commission” to take the heat – and put her in a difficult position – damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t -

I have a very bad feeling about this – the protestors should march to NPT -

remember how Benazir Bhutto died -

    • Like Benazir the assassin is more likely someone like Mya Gyi who killed Thakin Than Tun, not from among the people. Remember Depayin, not so long ago. But now that she is their prize cow you could say they have no reason to butcher her.

We do have a very apt expression: a hired belly to stop the blade. She assented to become one for Thein Sein. So who’s to blame?

  14. Shame on you lady.
Now, all people know that you are only a parrot well trained by Cronies and Junta.
Eventhough you are a Buddhist you dare siding with cronies who will demolish our pagoda and mountain.
    Shame for our country.
    Shame for our religion.
    Shame for your father.

  15. Daw Suu may lose a battle but she sure will win the war eventually.

  16. She has more brains than most of those folks in MM. She is looking at good of the nation as a whole rather than a group or a village or a town. Foreign investors are watching this closely because this would set precedence on how the government of MM deals with foreign investment which the nation badly needs. No one would come and invest in millions or billions just to have the project shutdown. My friends, nation building isn’t easy.

  17. It is UNACCEPTABLE in anyway to let the Chinese reap the rewards and let our own people suffer this way. How can she turned a blind eye on the poor people who are living from hand to mouth? How can she gave in to the rich and the powerful? How can she let down her own people who looked up to her with high hopes?

Hasn’t she realised she was being used by those in power? They are trying to create unrest and perhaps someone to assassinate her on behalf of them. She should not get involved with the Military Government in any way.

  18. You can not shut down the mine. Foreign Company has invested billions of dollars regardless of whether Chinese Company or American Company. It’ll damage international reputation and everyone will be caution about investing in Burma.
The important thing is UMEHL and Wanbao Company need to compensate for confiscated land with real market value.
Daw Su was not God. She can not get for you everything you’re peoples demanding.
Even in Australia, owner of land has to sell it if Company wants to do mining in private property. However, the price must be paid on market value and Company can not be taken away land for free. Private owner has to sell to Company or Government if the project is benefited for public and nation.
I believe those peoples who lost their land were not compensated with adequate market value.
If they received adequate compensation from UMHEL and WanBao Company and then it will be sorting out the problem.
Daw Su was doing with good faith for everyone but now they are blaming Daw Su.
    I don’t think it’s fair.
Daw Su is coordinating with President U Thein Sein Government for sake of Burmese peoples.
She is trying to catch up the time for Burmese peoples, which wasted by two idiot dictatorships Ne Win and bustard Than Shwe.
You’re peoples are not helping to country and walking like crab.
The problem is Burmese peoples are over expectation from Democracy.
United State (US) has millions of homeless and eating from rubbish bin.
Australia has tens of thousands of homeless peoples and begging in the street. They eat peoples left over foods from shop and finding foods from rubbish bin.
Democracy will not grow golden tree from soil itself and no gold rain will fall from sky. Everything you need, you must do with you’re both hands.
Daw Su has tried her best for nation and those peoples who lost their land to UMHL.
The rest is depending on them. They need to hire Lawyer and Lawyer will explain them what they can do within the law.
I couldn’t believe some of peoples are just waiting for blame. You peoples should put yourself in her shoes.
You should look yourself at mirror and ask yourself about how much you have contributed for rebuilding your country before you blame on Daw Su for everything.
If someone from foreign journalists blamed Daw Su for not doing enough on from illegal Bengali migrant to Kachin peace negotiation and then I’ll forgive him or her but I can’t forgive Burmese peoples who blame Daw Su for not having everything they wanted.
    Peoples need to grow up.

  19. If China wants to continue to invest or continue to work of investment made with military government in Burma, every investment agreement made under Than Shwe must be revisited and make right first. All the wrongs and one sided contracts need to be made right and making sure that it is done so must be the job of all gov. representatives elected by the people.

  20. I trust A May Su. She is the kind of woman, who will even sacrifice her life for the country. She has nothing to gain from this.I think she is far sighted and she wants to bring the country for the benefit of the people. In the long run, her decision will be proven. Please stay patient for a while. Everthing will be sorted out later and will be fine.

  21. Let people decide by vote.

  22. Sorry for comment made by my brother Ohn, who said “This woman is totally deranged”. I don’t think Ohn is totally deranged nor is the woman…he..he…he. I think Ohn should provide logical and reasonable arguments instead of blaming and blaming and blaming and murmuring and murmuring..ha..ha..ha

    • There are villagers. Not bothering any one but minding their own lowly business for generations. Their business is producing FOOD for the country out of their sweat and hard labour.

Them, the illiterates and therefore dumb, they are cheated and ripped off by the Tayoke Sit-tut and Bamar Sit-tut together companies. And they protested. Quietly and peacefully but .with determination. They were attacked like a foreign invasion force by the Bamar Sit-tut government using White Phosphorus, the use of which even warring nations in the battle ground constitutes War CRIME because of the inhumane suffering of the victims rather than quick death.

So that was investigated. And she, still insisting herself to be on the side of the people, said the villagers must give way to the companies intent to take away their ancestral land, livelihood and future and let them destroy the whole environment for a song, because it was sung by these kindly Tayoke and Bamar Sit-tut and also because it may deter her “western” buddies to come in and do the same elsewhere in the country as well.

It is understandable, all interenetted people seem to ne dead set on having the lights and cars and airports and KFC’s and that precious Electricity and 4G’s and all that like in their admired Thailand or Singapore or Oregon or Oslo now that the only rule people believe in s Lawba and Mawha.

But to get those by selling things out like a widow ( no pun intended)? Selling out pole off the house? But to do so by shooing away the RIGHTFUL OWNERS of the land and call these poor owners, the real power holders, as greedy and backward and destructive because they don’t simply curl up and die quietly condemning entire generations.

Besides even without the issue of the “Locals” and the environment which are so damaging and deadly, the whole fire sale of the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth of mineral for a song does not even make economic sense.

Yet here she is coming out to champion the cause of oh-not-the-people- but the Sit-tut and the Tayoke and then claim to be the People’s Champion. That is deranged.

Of course any one is free to worship her. But please do so without killing off the villagers living honestly and quietly and peacefully on their OWN land producing food for the country. And please don’t curse them. As the curse will bite you back because that’s how it works when one curses the Innocent.

  23. Daw Suu may lose a battle but she eventually will win the war ….

    • It is Gen 88 and the monks who will take Burma to freedom.

      • True, whoever stays the course. People will find their own leaders like Aye Net and Thwe Thwe Win. Those who turn their back on the popular struggle will be left by the wayside and consigned to the dustbin of history.

There is a need to realise that people do not protest for fun and do not deserve to be regarded as troublemakers or spoilsports wrecking an individual’s political ambitions.

        • MA: You turn your back on her. Now, they turn their back on you. That’s called the cycle of life.

TV: Gen 88? A mixture of good & bad. Taking Burma to freedom require setting a lot of good examples yourself first to the Burmese people who are still learning during this transitional period.

Blaming ASSK or any of your political rivals won’t set any example in the eyes of public.

  24. Hi Saung,
I’m totally agreed with you buddy.
Some of peoples here, they don’t know what they are talking about and no vision at all.
I don’t understand some of them do nothing for country and talking nonsense and blame on someone who try bringing country back into the main stream civilized world.
Daw Su and We Burmese peoples need Military if we want to change the country in civilized way. We don’t need another confrontation after another between Army and Burmese peoples. No blood needs to spill from our body anymore.
Why those shot sight peoples are portraying Daw Su as traitor?
I’ll say those peoples deserve to stay under dictatorship rule. They will never satisfy until they become dictatorship themselves.
They are not walking forward with main stream Burmese peoples and they are walking like Crab.
They got to be shame for their narrow mind and short sight.
Burmese Democracy is just beginning and long way to walk.
They are wasting someone else afford by talking rubbish but doing nothing for country.
Thank you God for don’t send those peoples back to Burma.
I’m totally supported what Daw Su doing for Burmese peoples and Country.
I do understand and feel her vision for future of Burmese peoples.
She is on right track. She is trying Military to veer off from the tradition of dictatorship system. She will be successful and Burma will never turn back to dictatorship rule in future.
If you sort sight and narrow minded person and then you must wait until everything is developed.

    • How can you say “Daw Su and We Burmese peoples need Military if we want to change the country in civilized way.” There’s no doubt that more of the same military rule does not bode well for the people of Burma. The country’s military junta has been labelled one of the “most corrupt regime” in the world. While the military establishment and privileged elites have enriched themselves on the country’s abundant natural resources, most of Burma’s 50 million people have been left to struggle for survival in a moribund, command-controlled economy. The best thing the military can do is go back to the barracks and let the people of Burma get on with cleaning up the economic and social mess the generals have created since they seized power.

  25. I am not sure what is in her mind nowadays. She is not like when she was in the beginning. I am confused.

  26. The problem is some of peoples who pointing finger at Daw Su. They should understand better about Daw Su is powerless in current Burmese Government. Her only power is backing of Burmese peoples and she is doing tirelessly for better life for all Burmese peoples in future.
She is not doing for her own popularity or for her own benefit.
Okay, let see. Shut down the Mine now. What will happen next?
The Foreign own Company will take Burmese Government to International Trade tribunal for dishonored Mining contract. Government has to pay their investment money plus interest and other compensation. Do we have enough money to pay it? Of course we don’t have money.
On the other hand, let the Company to continue Mining and received tax and Mining loyalty.
That money can be using on Country development project.
For environment problem, all Mining activity has damage environment. However if the Mine is good for country and peoples and environment damage can be minimize by restrictive Mining regulation and then why not let the Company to continue Mining?
I can understand many tutors are teaching to those farmers who lost lands to UMHEL. Now they are confused and they don’t know what they wanted.
Government must tell UMHEL and Wanbao Company to pay the adequate compensation for their land or shut down the mine. UMHEL is behaving like Bandit.
Government must take control UMHEL and no more Military involvement in country business.
Veteran Military Generals can do business independently as their own investment but not with Burmese peoples’ money. Military is not master of this nation and they are servants of this nation. The ex Generals should create Master society for themselves of this Nation.
I hope President U Thein Sein will tackle this issue sooner than later.
Also we must be recognized President U Thein Sein for his reform. However, he needs to do more for Burmese peoples and at the same time he need to tell ex Generals for back off and stop their greedy.
President U Thein Sein must dissolve UMHEL and that Conglomerate UMHEL must give back Burmese peoples. He must give back power to peoples of Burma but Burmese peoples must obey the Rule of Law if they want to be respectable peoples on the earth.
Confrontation, Protesting for individual interest, Lawlessness, Self Serving, Disorder, Freedom but it harm to other and other out of civilized manner are not Democracy.
Democracy is building society with peaceful and harmony among peoples.
Please, don’t let our last chance for change in Burma slip away between your fingers.
We must hold the chance together with our hands.
Now it’s time for come together and contributes whatever you can during rebuilding of our mutilated Country. One day, we can be proudly calling our country greatest nation in the world.
Daw Su is now 67 years old and we do not know how long she can lead us to the great future. Without Daw Su contribution, even we can not dream what Burma is heading today.
Daw Su is a little lady but she has strong personality. She has rare quality of what true leadership must have. We can say she was cloned of our greatest leader Bogyoke Aung San.
She has her own quality and her father name does not need to help her for to receive admiring from peoples of Burma now.
We men should be shame of bad mouthing about Daw Su. Those men need to ask themselves why I’m just talking rubbish and why I can not contribute rebuilding country.
Burma is worst then war torn country. The country’ peoples’ moral, ethical, culture, tradition and society was mutilated and totally destroyed by dictatorship Ne Win and Bustard War Criminal Than Shwe.
I hope all Burmese peoples will do whatever they can from their corner rather than standing aside and talking nonsense.

  27. Dear Moderator,

“The ex Generals should create Master society for themselves of this Nation.”

Please, replace above sentence with this one please.
“The ex Generals should not create upper class Master Society for themselves as Master of this Nation”

Thank you very much for your help.

    Best regards,
    Sai Lin Kan

    • Dear Sai ,what’s we saw the images of the pictures in this situation is our(Burmese people) need more education.Everyones need to realise what is the Burma Is now? What types of people are there?Do they understand the real situatiom? These questions are the factor of the country’s future. We are realised the Burma by thinking widly.(1)We are classified the country as PRO democracy not in the POST democracy. We still need to go for long way.Only the beginning , the transition is being start without any bloodshed.Every country need bloodshed , Scrifices more or less.Burma transition is less bloodshed and less scrifices.Yes.now Burma has been transformed with Right direction. These achavments have been carried out by Daw Aung San Su Kyi and U thein Sain admininstration as you and me know.Otherwise,Like what happening in Seria. So our people must appericiate it and understand that we are not any more in the DARK Era(Dictatorship)but we are moving toward to democracy.(2) So many types of people in our country classified by good and bad .So you doesn’t need to outcry by those bad people as never see the light before.Funny thing that I saw in 1988 ,8,8.Morning we(approximate 30 ex-student)trarted marching fr RGH we started facing loaded guns holding army with marshell law. After 1st babbication more people (1,000-2000)joint ,and 2nd barrication 10,000 pr more joint and last barrication 3rd stage become 100,000 and more and sparded the whole Burma. Same day in RGH Students Union was founded by students and I became one of the mamber.Fund rising also activated and I’ve found one guy I knew was collected funs(Tens of thousand of Kyat)and disappeared. This is one type of people. Then went for 10 days and free to set up PARTYS and found More then thousands and every one dreamed about become president or PM.I was only mamber to NLD as my respect of Daw Aung San Su Kyi and contributed to NLD until now and without hesitation. So I’ve found the 2nd type of people that wanted to grab the power if situation is OK.Then finally about 1 month later army approched back and started pointing each others and became scapeGoats. These are the 3rd types of people and so on many types people in burma at the same time some students and people (our brotherhood)were kill and capture. That time I hated the army as againsted. But not now This army’s mineset are changed not the murderrer not the order of the dictatorship(One man show) since every country need National Army.(3)Education ,what’s I mean is no need to be as become a Doct or Phd or BSc,BE or BA only need correct way of thinking and determination. So you and me need to stop and against other’s believing and idea. Our beliving of the Democracy is in near future.May all Burmese will achieved true Democracy in near future.Best regards John L Win.

  28. George Than Setkyar Heine

Thus SHE HAS GONE INTO HISTORY and HEADED for OBLIVION as well as only A FALL GUY DUPED/USED by Than Shwe led MOB at Naypyidaw of course.
The MEETING with the Chinese ambassador to Burma at Naypyidaw MADE HER CHANGE the TUNE man!
PLAYING DUMB nor STOOPING to CONQUER at this TIME and JUNCTURE is NO LONGER VIABLE much less IN VOGUE not to mention HOLD ANY WATER in this DIRTY GAME of the blokes in uniform and civilian attire PLAYING at the Naypyidaw lest Suu Kyi forgets!
Failing to DO the RIGHT THING at the RIGHT TIME and JUNCTURE on the part of the former freedom fighter of Burma has COST HER the ENMITY/WRATH of the PEOPLE who are COUNTING ON HER all these past decades as well.
She has LET THEM DOWN – FAILED THEM – at this CRUCIAL and PIVOTAL JUNCTURE with the RIGHT OPPORTUNITY and FAVORABLE SITUATION PRESENTING ITSELF today.
And she BLEW the CHANCE no less of course.
Instead SHE GETS NAILED DOWN in the COFFIN for GOOD by Than Shwe’s CLERK whom she TRUSTED after a dinner at his hideout at Naypyidaw.
Hence, SHE would be DUBBED if not REMEMBERED as a FAILED ICON only for SELLING HER PEOPLE and COUNTRY to the Chinese communists and the Burmese military misfits running the country at Naypyidaw today for the record of course.
Sadly as well and for a fact no less, Suu Kyi has simply SUCCUMBED to the CHARM of the Chinese communists and WILES of Than Shwe led LOT still holding the helm of Burma ultimately I say.

  29. Now stop against each other,Let the villagers cool down .Think about the problem came from where? The provlems came from than shwe and he sold the lands to his big brother with his pointed finger.I believed no one were dare to against him .Now time is changed mine set also changed no longer fear in vain only left are all mass. All these changed are never become true without Daw Aung San Su Kyi.She will never let you down. Now she is only negociator in mass situation and try to make it right.I believed she also don’t like the Mine operate by the China as you and me think.Don’t make so difficult for all and think of your own bussiness.Daw Su said in two statement -1) Let the mine carry on until finish contract.2) let get the conpensation ( This words got two meaning) .The conpensation meaning very wide.living,Education,Health and so on.This mean, you(all villagers) are become rich.Daw Su will never let Mine operators to conpensate you at any small amount. She will sak for international conpensation standard and that is her job.If the Mine Operator can’t effort to compensate you, they have to pack the thing and go back .Ask what you want now.Lucky you are in new Burma if not ,your land will lost and you landed in jail. All villagers should thanks to Daw Aung san Su Kyi.All villagers should elect own leaders and communicate with Daw Su’s team.Good Luck villagers.

  30. All villagers please calm down.I know your felling how bad.Your anger should go to Than Shwe not Daw Aung San Su Kyi .She came to your villages and deliver the good news. She is only negociator and compromise between villagers and Mine Authority. This mine was comtract awarded to China company by Than Shwe.I believed no one were dare to against if not you totally lost ypur lands and even end up in jail. Now is difference you can talk, you can bring up the problem. All of these freedons without fear are creation of Daw Aung San Su Kyi.She is the one whose fight and scrificed for it as well as all Burmese.Daw Aung San Su Kyi said two articals .(1) Let the Mine continue run until contract finish.(There no choice , Need to think about burma’s future as trust by internationally.I don’t think She like the mine to continue.Only the mass that left by Than Shwe to clean.(2)Conpensation for villager ( This words have two meaning) .They have to stop operating the Mine If can’t pay the conpension .Conpension meaning is very wide as Life, health, education and income and so on.This mean all villagers includind Monks.Elect the leaders among villagers and ask for it Big house, Schools(With teachers and chairs , Tables)Hospitals (with doctors and nurses).Daw Aung San Su Kyi will follow up with international standard.Good luck villagers.U don’t have the choice that you have to pay for NayPyiDaw City Construction.

  31. Everything from the start of ASSK FREEDOM was prearrange and staged…nothing of her presence is by chance, there were many secret meetings, discussion and brainstorming to stage such an act…so the moral of the story IS…..ASSK will eventually run for the JUNTA in a fashion of SMART / SWEET talking and brainwashing the our burmese people, very sad to say that we will or at least majority was FOOL by ASSK, she was the perfect ICON to pleased the international communities and so was also FOOLED…the international communities MUST NOW ACT to boycott her and her NLD party till matters are much better. We the burmese people must NO LONGER STAND for such narrow character like ASSK. We the burmese people have been TOTALLY wrong about her. ASSK is not worth to be a burmese she should go back to the UK and not return.

NO MORE SUPPORT FOR ASSK!!! YOU ARE SCAM!!!

  32. Very Much Agreed…

NLD is National League for Dictators

  33. I blame all this mess partly on Suu Kyi’s stubborn insistence on Western sanctions (only Western countries, not China, not even Singapore!). She never said anything against the greedy Chinese investing in Burma. That was total hypocrisy and double-standards. Than Shwe was partly forced and partly bribed to sell off everything to the Chinese and now Burma has to live with this ugly Chinese mess.
    Sorry to be so blunt!

  34. The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is for Good Men to do Nothing.

  35. The report might not be perfect but I still agree with DASSK to continue the project with conditions and suggestions on the report… I will continue support DASSK because there’s no one like her being educated and having knowledge and at the same time have sacrificed a lot for the nation… Nation building is not easy. Those who are attacking personal…try yourselves to become like her first.

  36. Is Daw Su became a dictator? Don’t the villagers have rights to protest or disagree with what the report was? Don’t they have the freedom to protest? Now Daw Su is facing the real life democracy, so far away from what the ideology is.
In Australia, I don’t think it is as easy and straight forward as what Sai Lin Kan has said “Even in Australia, owner of land has to sell it if Company wants to do mining in private property”.

    • Why don’t you think it is as easy and straight forward procedure in Australia?

Because you don’t read. If you don’t want to be a naive person anymore, READ for god sake especially if you live in the West. (ASSK also told this to the protesters, READ the report!! )

Here is something you can read if you want to know about Australian mining law.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_mining_law

By the way, I don’t live in Australia. I don’t know about it before but I look out for the information on it, and yes Sai Lin Kan was right.

  37. I feel sorry for the people. Why they did not protect the project from the beginning?
Maybe they could not open their voices from the beginning. That why they have to face with many difficulty now. Oh Su….. do your best.
