India to Restore ‘Historic Links’ with Burma

A top Indian diplomat said on Thursday that Burma’s reform process will help it reintegrate with the region and rebuild “historic links” with India. “Looking eastward of India, we are working to enhance the full range of our relationship with Myanmar, enhance our historic links with that neighbor and take forward our shared interests,” Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathia told an audience at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, an American think tank in the US capital Washington. “The historic visit of President Obama a few months ago, and the easing of sanctions should help Myanmar process of re-engagement with the world and restore its historic role in the region,” he said.
