Burma’s Economic Growth to Hit 6.5% in 2013

By On Wednesday, January 16, 2013 @ 7:45 am

The World Bank projects that Burma’s economy will grow with 6.5 percent in 2013, slightly up from last year’s 6.2 percent growth. In 2014 and 2015, the economy will expand with 6.6 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively. The bank said on Tuesday that Burma has “potential to deliver strong growth over the projection period due to rapid political transformation—but this potential may not be realized if the pace of reform weakens.” GDP of the East Asia and Pacific region, excluding China, will grow 5.8 percent in 2013, while China will see an 8.4-percent expansion. In November, the IMF said Burma’s GDP would grow with 6.25 percent this year.
