Burma’s main opposition party has announced plans to hold its first nationwide party conference in more than 20 years next month, according to a report by AFP. The National League for Democracy, led by pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, will convene the conference in the final week of February, said party spokesperson Ohn Kyaing. “The main task of the conference is to elect the Central Committee and Central Executive body of the party,” he added. Around 1,500 delegates are expected to attend the meeting, he said, adding that the party is still looking for a suitable venue.
