Burma Establishes Diplomatic Ties with Iceland

Burmese state media reported on Wednesday that Iceland has become the sixth country this year to forge new diplomatic ties with Burma. According to The New Light of Myanmar, the two countries’ permanent representatives to the United Nations signed a joint communique establishing the link at the world body’s headquarters in New York on Dec. 19. Earlier this year, Malawi, Bhutan, Luxembourg, Latvia and Estonia also agreed to formalize their relations with Burma. According to Burma’s Foreign Ministry, the country has 30 embassies abroad and formal diplomatic relations with 110 nations.
