Malaysia has accepted 40 shipwreck survivors from Burma who were in a limbo for days after they were rescued by a Vietnamese vessel but denied entry into Singapore. The UN refugee agency UNHCR said in a statement that the 40 men, believed to be Muslim Rohingyas, disembarked Tuesday at Malaysia’s southern Johor State neighboring Singapore. The men were rescued nearly two weeks ago by a Vietnamese cargo ship after their vessel sank in Burmese waters. Singapore authorities refused to take them in amid concerns it could spark an exodus amid ethnic violence in Burma.—AP
