Despite continuing ethnic tensions in northern Arakan State, Burma’s government wants to boost its border trade with Bangladesh, according to a report by the Dacca-based newspaper The Daily Star. “Unfortunately there are some communal problems in our area, which is delaying the enhancement of border trade. When the conditions improve our border trade will also increase. It is assured,” said Burma’s deputy commerce minister, Pwint San, on Sunday. He said that Burma plans to set up a wholesale market and hold trade fairs along the Bangladeshi border to increase bilateral trade.
