New Zealand PM to Make First Visit to Burma

New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key will travel to Burma later this month for the first ever visit by a leader from the Pacific island nation, according to a report by Fairfax NZ News. The two countries previously maintained minimal bilateral relations because of international opposition to military rule in Burma. However, in March, NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully joined the growing number of senior Western officials flocking to Burma to take advantage of the country’s improving political climate. The Burmese foreign minister visited New Zealand for talks last month.
